WHAT ARE THE STRETCH MARKS?

Stretch marks, also known as striae, are linear white or off-white stripes, which are caused by tears in the dermis (the middle layer of skin), as a result of rapid stretching of the skin. They are actually atrophic scars, which have a purplish / reddish colour when they first appear, that fades out to white or off-white, over the time.

Of course, there are. In Derm & Plastic Surgery Clinic, after evaluating the problem, we can recommend the ideal treatment for you or a combination of treatments that reduce drastically or disappear them.

The most effective therapies for stretch marks are:

  • Fractional Laser
  • Autologous Mesotherapy
  • Demapen
  • TCA Peeling
Ραγάδες αντιμετώπιση

It is perhaps the most effective treatment for stretch marks, using the most advanced Laser technology, with results that reach high rates of stretch reduction, even for white stretch marks.

  • How does Fractional Laser work?
Fractional Laser selectively scans the skin, as its main energy beam separates into many smaller ones, aiming directly at the problematic areas and going deeper than any other laser, without destroying the surrounding normal skin. It activates fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin, thus reducing the depth of stretch marks and gradually improves their texture and colour, while at the same time, it achieves significant skin tightening.
  • How many sessions are needed?
Usually 6-8 sessions are required, at intervals of 3-6 weeks, depending on the intensity and extent of the problem.
  • How long does Fractional Laser treatment take?
The Fractional Laser session takes only 15 to 20 minutes.
  • How painful is the treatment?
Before the treatment, a local anaesthetic is applied, while cool air is delivered to the treatment area, making the treatment very tolerable.
  • What is the recovery time?
As the stretch marks usually develop in areas of the body, which are covered by clothes, one can immediately return to his/her daily activities, even after a laser treatment at high settings of energy. The next few days, you should expect a slight redness and swelling in the area, as well as exfoliation, which usually lasts for up to 5 days.
  • What are the results of Fractional Laser?
The improvement starts immediately, and the skin looks smoother and healthier after a few days and gradually improves in the next months, as the deeper layers of the skin, continue to heal with the activation of fibroblasts and the production of new collagen. Fractional Laser has excellent success rates, of up to 80% in the elimination of white stretch marks after 6-8 sessions. Red stretch marks disappear completely after 3-4 sessions and that’s why is important to seek treatment as early as possible, when stretch marks are on this early stage.
  • What should I do after treatment?
After treatment, one must avoid sun exposure, in the treated areas and apply daily a good moisturizing and regenerative product on them.

This method is another effective treatment for stretch marks and uses the beneficial properties of growth factors, derived from our own blood.

  • How does Autologous Mesotherapy work?
After taking a small volume of blood, the blood cells are isolated, and they are reinfused into the problematic areas, to promote the healing and the repair of damaged tissues, reducing the depth of stretch marks. The growth factors actively enhance skin regeneration and collagen production in the area and gradually restore normal skin texture and appearance.
  • Is the treatment safe?
It is a very safe treatment, as it uses the patient’s own blood and therefore there is no risk of allergic reactions. Moreover, because of the rapid healing, due to growth factors, you return to your daily activities, without any restrictions.
  • Can it be combined with other stretch marks’ treatment?
Autologous Mesotherapy can be combined with all the other treatments, but the treatment with which it is best combined, is Fractional Laser, either on the same day or after a few days. With this combination, we can achieve great results in fewer sessions.

Dermapen is the latest trend in fractional mesotherapy technology, that makes mesotherapy painless and much more effective, through this specific microneedling device.

  • How does Dermapen work?
In Cosmetic Dermatology, we know that the more we stimulate the skin, through microinjuries on it, the more effective results we have, in the regeneration and revitalization of it. Dermapen penetrates the skin up to 1300 times per second, without destroying the epidermis. Therefore, it activates the regeneration process of collagen and elastin and rejuvenates the tissues from within, correcting stretch marks with impressive results.
  • Does it hurt?
Dermapen treatment is one of the most painless therapies available. However, for minimizing the possibility of discomfort, we can apply local anaesthetic cream 30min before the treatment.
  • What is the recovery time?
The patient returns immediately to his/her daily activities. The treated area may be slightly red, but the redness fades away, over the next 1-2 days. Light exfoliation, may also occur in the next few days.

TCA Peeling uses a solution of trichloroacetic acid for medium or deep peel, depending on the concentration, in order to cause exfoliation and cell regeneration of the treated area.

  • How does it work?
It is a peeling that can be done as medium or deep peel and which is used in stretch marks, usually combined with other treatments, reducing the depth of stretch marks and improving their color and texture.
  • What is the recovery time?
You can immediately return to your activities, as clothes usually cover the treated areas and immediately after the treatment the skin has only mild redness. For the next few days the skin will continue to be red (1-2 days) and then brown (3-4 days) and will gradually be exfoliating for up to 7 days.
  • What should I do after TCA Peeling?
For the next few days, you should use a good moisturizing and regenerating cream, on the treated areas, recommended by our doctors.
